UPDATE II: We were not able to come up with the amount required by the judge in time, so we lost the case. I have been distraught the last few days because those judges never cared and gave NYCHA YEARS to fix the problems (which they still have not), but held my tardiness against me because I was on crutches. So, we will be sewing NYCHA for pain & suffering for the conditions we were forced to live in the last fourteens years that has negatively impacted
our health.
UPDATE I: Thank you to those who donated. Unfortunately, we were not able to raise enough funds in time to relocate. Having missed the pre-trial, the judge is requiring $35,763.82 by Friday, January 2nd to even consider our order to show cause to have the case reinstated to the calendar.
This is a last minute update because we applied for public assistance, but do not qualify for the 'One Shot Deal' and are still waiting for food stamps and cash assistance.
Please read below if you are not familiar with our story, and consider donating and sharing.
We appreciate your support and prayers.
God bless, and Happy New Year!

Greetings,
The photos you see are of conditions my son and I have lived in for the last fourteen years. Countless water leaks have led to flooding, mold, bug and rodent infestations, electrical fires, and other apartment damage that caused direct asbestos exposure. We had to vacate multiple times due to these conditions and were temporarily relocated for an asbestos abatement. We now face another for lead after testing positive four years ago without being notified of the results until this past October.
Living on the first floor directly in front of the entrance door, we get overflow, sewage backups, and cigarette/weed exposure from residents smoking in the lobby, compounded by NYCHA staff smoking in the maintenance shed beneath our apartment.
Our physical health has been severely impacted and our mental health tested by years of fighting NYCHA in court. They finally approved us for a transfer, only to later be notified that the building was bedbug infested and had already been featured on the news for other issues. It then flooded while we were waiting to move in, knocking out both elevators. Dozens of residents lost everything.
Outreach to 311, the NYPD, our district, mayor's, and governor's offices fell on deaf ears and we never got lucky with housing lotteries. We are currently in court, going to trial in January, but looking to relocate as soon as possible while we are in between floods and rodent/roach outbreaks.
We are raising funds for a long-distance move after plans with friends and family fell through. Quotes are high and our savings is low since I resigned the week we were scheduled to move in July. Quotes from U-Box, PODs, and other movers have ranged from $6,500-$8,500+, not including taxes and fees.
I am still recovering from a meniscus tear, plus additional tissue damage after returning to work prematurely, and recently began walking without my son accompanying me because my knee would give out. This will be addressed once we have relocated, so any additional funds will be used towards treatment and starting over again in our new home.
Thank you for any support you can offer, whether that be prayers, donations, or sharing with someone who can.
God bless you and yours!
Rashida & Emmanuel
