Hello, my name is Rasa. I am an Iranian 3rd-year student, studying Music and Audio Production at Youngstown State University in Ohio. Coming to the United States to study music was one of the biggest steps of my life. In Iran, opportunities for women to study and perform music freely are very limited, so being able to pursue this dream here has been life-changing for me.
Recently, due to the situation in my home country, my family lost their financial stability and can no longer support me. I have spoken with my university and searched for every possible option, but unfortunately, I must pay my tuition by the deadline to remain enrolled.
If I cannot pay on time, my enrollment will be canceled, which would result in me losing my student visa status and being forced to return to Iran. As a woman musician who has lived abroad and supported her community through music, I find this possibility deeply frightening and would put my life in danger.
I work as much as my student visa allows—20 hours per week on campus at minimum wage—teaching music in community art programs and working as an audio recording assistant. I have done everything I can to support myself while continuing my studies and maintaining a good GPA.
I only have one year left to finish my bachelor’s degree. Being forced to leave now because of financial hardship beyond my control would mean losing everything I have worked so hard to build.
My dream is to become a music producer and educator and share the same gift of music that has given me hope and strength.
Any support—even the smallest amount—would help me stay in school and finish my degree. Thank you so much for reading my story and for helping me keep this dream alive.
