Help Randy’s Family in His Fight Against Cancer

Lend a Helping Hand: and support Randy’s family through his fight against cancer. This fundraising page is to raise funds to support Randy Klasing and his family while he fights cancer.

 

For several months Randy had been dealing with a non-specific pain in his back and side. Despite seeing several doctors and undergoing tests and procedures, nobody was able to identify the source of this pain. Then, on January 31st, 2023, he received the news nobody ever wants to hear, he was diagnosed with cancer.

 

His cancer is a Stage III Squamous Cell Carcinoma, which is a type of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer. The cancer mainly consists of a large paraspinal tumor which has caused spinal cord compression and injury resulting in, aside from constant pain, neurological dysfunction. After beginning chemo and radiation therapies, Randy faced a number of setbacks which interrupted treatment. The spinal cord compression caused motor function difficulties which led to a fall and broken hip requiring surgery. He then had spinal surgery to address the compression which has since failed to heal properly. He has also had recurrent bouts of pneumonia and sepsis. All of this has made his road to recovery and even being able to stand, walk, or live independently again overwhelmingly difficult.

 

Randy’s hope is to be able to overcome this disease and return to life as he knew it before his cancer diagnosis. He wants nothing more than to be able to return to his job at Trader Joe’s, get back to puttering around in his backyard, and to enjoy spending time with his wife, Debi, and the rest of his family. Unfortunately, the severity of his illness has caused an immense burden, both financially and in the level of care he requires. Debi has had to miss time at work to help him with all activities of daily life as well as taking him to and from appointments or spending time with him at the hospital.
