Hi there! Randy Herman and I got married May 20th 2026. Randy has no association with his father's last name, and desires his mother's maiden name Matteson for our family. The reason he wants to shed the Herman name is that his father was abusive in all ways imaginable, and is dead so there's no chance or desire for reconciliation.

We went to social security today and we were informed that we can't change our last names to Matteson without a judge giving a legal reason. For both of us, not just Randy.

The filing fee for a single name change in Kootenai County Idaho is $166. We are asking for $500 to cover the filing fees, gas for going to the courthouse, and other possible unexpected costs.

We have been in a real financial bind after having increased childcare costs for our daughter to go to school, paying for our small wedding, and rising food costs in our area.

My legal last name is still Tucker, which is my ex husband's name. I would like to shed it as quickly as possible.
