Randy Menges Spent Decades on Sex Offender Registries for Having Gay Sex

We are trying to help Randy Menges put his life back together after he spent almost thirty years on sex offender registries for having gay sex.

Until 2003, people in the United States could be convicted for having oral or anal sex: so-called “sodomy.” In 1993, Randy had sex with two other boys at the foster home where he was living in rural Idaho. Idaho prosecuted him under their archaic and homophobic sodomy law, for a “Crime Against Nature.” He served seven years, simply for having sex.

When he got out, Idaho made him register as a sex offender. Throughout his adult life, Randy lost jobs, friends, and housing because he was on the registry. When he explained to people the circumstances of his conviction, they often didn’t believe him and claimed that people do not have to register for such things in this country.

Thankfully, a federal court has found that forcing him to register as a sex offender is unconstitutional. But Randy, now 45, needs some help putting his life back together. He’s 45, has spent many of the past years homeless and battled drug addiction before getting clean. He loves animals and just wants to work with horses. We’re trying to raise money so he can buy his own horse trailer and work for himself to earn a living.

All funds raised will be used to help Randy purchase a horse trailer, to either buy a new truck or upgrade his existing truck, and to obtain the necessary licensure to start his horse transport business. Anything remaining will help with housing expenses.

Who am I? Someone close to both Randy and myself asked me to navigate this process because of my experience with business and fundraising. 

At Randy’s request, he will find a trailer and/or truck that he wishes to obtain and I will transfer the money to the seller. Randy will have title to the trailer/truck outright.  I’m happy to put anyone in touch with the Randy directly so he can confirm this arrangement.
