Our friend, Ram Krishna Tamang, wants to live a good life and to do so wants eventually to start his own trekking and hospitality company in Kathmandu. This requires he save significant money. Saving with on and off jobs in late Covid Nepal is currently very difficult. His wife already works 14-hour days, 6 days a week. He sees his best opportunity as putting his chef skills to work in Europe for 2-3 years where he believes he can save the US$20,000 required to get his Nepal-based company started.
To get launched in Europe, Ram needs $6,000 to cover the visa, travel expenses and help getting settled, as well as some supplemental cooking classes he will complete before departure. His local friends are helping him with $1,000 which should cover the cooking classes and preliminary expenses. This GoFundMe effort is to raise the additional $5,000.
Those of us who know him, know Ram belongs in the mountains where his bright smile is evidence of his generous, peaceful nature and the good and happy life he seeks. Help us help him find a way to earn a chance for this dreamed good life!
Thank you for your generosity,
Jim and Brad in Minnesota
From Ram:
To my international friends,
My name is Ram Krishna Tamang. I was born in 1997 to a poor family in Batase, Nepal. My mother remarried when I was 1 year old, and my early life was difficult. I got a chance to study up to 10th grade with some scholarship assistance. But then, due to the actions of some villagers and lack of money, I left the village in search of a better life than my ancestors and made Kathmandu my home.
I have done many different jobs over the years. I have worked in hotels, restaurants, building/construction plus as a porter and guide in the trekking industry. In my Buddhist teaching, I understand that life is impermanent and one day everyone has to leave this world. But we also have to strive to live well!
Therefore, I am asking for your help. Jim and Brad have offered to help me with creating a crowd-sourcing fundraising effort.
I need to raise $5,000 USD to travel to Europe in order to work and learn about the tourism and cooking. These costs are to help with getting the visa, travel expenses and job placement. In addition, I have saved and asked my Nepali friends for an additional $1000 to pay for cooking courses, which I will take before I leave.
Once in Europe, I believe I will be able to work, learn and save about $900 - $1000 per month. Accommodations are included with this position.
It is my dream that once I save $20,000 from my work I can return to Nepal and start my own business in the hospitality and trekking industry.
I want to thank everyone for understanding and for their help.
Dhan’yavada धन्यवाद (Thank you),
Ram
