Hi, my name is Ramon Humphrey-Giron. I've been on my own since I was 16 yrs old. I've always worked and tried my best to be a productive member of society. In November 2024, I was injured on the job and have not been able to work since then. I'm disabled in my right arm and have not been able to find employment that can accommodate my situation. I'm currently receiving workers comp, but it's not even 20% of what I used to make. I've ran out of my savings which has been able to sustain me until now. I really had to put my pride and ego aside, just to write my story.
I've always beleived in working hard and self sustainment. Unfortunately due to child suppprt and other bills, I'm only left with $650 a month. To some it's probably enough to get by, to others it's a blessing. I thank God at least in receiving something but in nyc, where everything is expensive and I don't qualify for Gov't Assistant, Cash Benefits or Food Stamps, it's pretty tough. I was injured on the job site and have lost the ability to use my right arm. I've always paid my own way and don't beleive in handouts, if you're an able body person. I've given my share to homeless people and Charities, over the years, but I now find myself on the needy side of life.
My rent, food, laundry and other bills exceed my current income of $650 a month. I'm pretty desperate and have sold most of my personal items, to stay afloat until my case is finalized, which could take a year plus. I've looked into room rentals & homeless shelters but it's very bleeck. I can't find any place in NYC where rent is below $600, because that's all I can afford. I've been getting food on the cheap, hot dogs and pb&j sandwiches, which I'm very grateful for. I'm asking and pleading for any assistance at this time. This is my humble request, if you can and are willing to donate to a good man, who's down on his luck, please do so.
I'm preparing myself for homelessness and not going to lie, it's daunting and the unforseen events have me, sleepless for months now.
I'm scheduled for surgery in the next couple months and it's will be extremely hard to try to heal while living on the street. I only humbly ask because, I too have helped in the past and would not be here, if my situation was not dire. Both my parents are gone and my kids have their own issues, plus they live in Florida, so living with them is out the question. I must remain in nyc until my case has concluded.
