As some of you may know, our beloved pup Ralph, only just 5, has been diagnosed with lymphoma and was doing really, really well for 6 plus months.

I chose not to go down the path of chemo. Which was vindicated by a number of pet health professionals and the fact that he is still alive and kicking at today - 7 months from diagnosis.

But sadly, on July 1 - his 5th birthday, Ralph developed a number of additional problems and has stopped eating solids now for a week.

Ralph's diagnosis alone in December cost $1500. Vet visits since have piled up in the thousands - $500-$1000 each month. In addition, medicines and supplements + fresh ingredients to feed him on a special diet have tested my resources, especially since I have been limited in my capacity to work while caring for him.

This past 2 weeks alone since Ralph got sick - with tummy issues, eye problems, and anal sack tumor - is costing me in excess of $3000. I've been feeding him via syringe every hour, and cleaning poop + vomit bile through the house, so my earning capacity, and personal well-being is really being tested.

At this point you might ask why I don't put him down. He's just turned 5. The light in his eyes, the wag in his tail and the spirit in his body tell me he is not ready to go.

Ralph wants to live. We want to do whatever we can to support him. Our family is small, and he is an integral part of it.

So here we are now - facing what is logically the last roll of the dice. We need to give Ralph a series of Vitamin C infusions, get an ultrasound and treatment schedule with a vet who specialises in cancer.

She is hopeful. As are we - she definitely is not in it for the money.

Saying that, it is still going to cost $1600 approx for the Vitamin C treatment, $600 for ultrasound and then ongoing treatments.

This single father is getting crushed under the burden. Our finances are currently so decimated, we are extremely vulnerable, and living day-to-day.

When it comes to the choice of money, or the life of a loved one - for me, there is no choice.

Unfortunately, society does not see it the same way. We'll have little choice soon if we can not get finances under some kind of control.

I'm not asking for much, even $10 or $20 that you'd be willing to donate to a stranger's cause.

Ralph brings so much joy to everyone he meets. That light inside him still burns bright.
