I am reaching out to share the story of Ralph and Sandy Pena, a remarkable couple who have recently faced an overwhelming tragedy that has left them in urgent need of support. I worked with Ralph for 15 years. Ralph had a successful career working for Chicago Public Schools as a Special Education Teacher assistant before retiring and moving to Florida to care for his wife Sandy, who has been battling significant health issues. Their love and commitment to one another have always been evident, but they now find themselves in a dire situation after Hurricane Milton devastated their home.
Sadly, their house was destroyed, and due to circumstance beyond their control, neither insurance nor FEMA is able to assist them, as they have not been Florida residents long enough to qualify for aid. This has left them in an incredibly vulnerable position, currently living in their damaged home with nothing more than a tarp for a roof. They are lost everything- belongings, comfort, and security-and are struggling to rebuild their lives. Their HOA is giving them until December to either repair, replace, or demolition their home, all options that take money to do. Ideally, they would want to repair their home, and continue to live out their retirement that they worked so hard for.
We are reaching out to our community for help. We are organizing this GoFundMe to provide Ralph and Sandy with the financial support they need to start the rebuilding process and restore a sense of normalcy in their lives. Any amount you can contribute, no matter how small , will help make a significant difference.
If you would like to help, please consider donating to this GoFundMe. Your donations will go directly to Ralph and Sandy during this incredibly challenging time. Your generosity can help them find hope and healing as they navigate this difficult journey.
