Help raise money for Beth’s life saving treatment

We have set up this page to help our lovely Beth through a very difficult time. We know so many of Beth's friends who want to help and hope that this page will allow us, together, to get Beth the medical attention and treatment that she needs to get better.

Following a distressing medical procedure, Beth developed sepsis which is a life-threatening response to an infection. In order to treat her, doctors prescribed her a very strong antibiotic. A fluoroquinolone called ciprofloxacin. Doctors are warned about the long-lasting side effects of this antibiotic (which include ruptured tendons, muscle pain, walking difficultly, burning pains in your skin, depression, problems with memory, sleeping, vision and hearing) and unfortunately this is what Beth is experiencing today - a condition known as Fluoroquinolone Toxicity FQAD.

The physical symptoms are excruciatingly painful and terrifying for Beth and her young family too. She has experienced every listed side effect during her months of suffering. Perhaps most distressing for her have been those caused by an attack on her nervous system. She describes burning sensations across her whole body, as though she has been set on fire. Beth now has peripheral neuropathy, numbness, crawling, pins and needles all over her skin. Her eyesight has deteriorated rapidly causing dizziness, visual snow, floaters, and slow responses from her brain when she tries to focus or move her sight to a different object. She has migraines and pain from eye strain, all of which are extremely debilitating. Beth has spent days bed ridden with tendon and joint pain, worrying that her mobility will be taken from her. Beth has very dark days, struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts which don't subside. These are recognised symptoms of the chemical attack on her brain due to poisoning; not to mention the sheer exhaustion of this endurance and the worry of what is ahead of her. All she wants is to be a bit better so she can enjoy her little boys, Henry and Wilfred. She is also very passionate about her work as a biomedical scientist but given the current state of her health, she is currently on long-term sick leave and unsure if or when she will be able to return.

Beth is getting as much medical attention as she can through the NHS but the treatments that we know have helped others recover from Cipro Toxicity are treatments that are not available on the NHS, and some not even in the UK. These include psychotherapy, accupuncture, oxygen tank therapy, Intravenous Vitamin Drips, physiotherapy and nutritional therapy. CBD oil and CBD balm are also proving helpful to soothe the chronic pain. We have set up this page to help support Beth, Rich and their young family through this terribly uncertain time. We hope to support them by funding effective treatments she is currently using, those we hope to find in the future and indeed help them in anyway they need.

If we are able to raise enough money (£25,000.00) we would like to be able to help Beth to get to a centre offering regeneration programmes specifically for sufferers of Fluoroquinolone Toxicity. These are located around the world, in Europe and as far away as L.A. Research is ongoing and much depends on the state of Beth's health and the suitability of these therapies. What we do know is time is of the essence and therefore we aim to get the most appropriate treatment as early as April this year. Many who attend these clinics have had a full recovery, which is what we hope for for Beth.

We know that the road to recovery for Beth is going to be a tough one, both mentally and physically. We want to thank anyone who has been able to support her with their time and their words of reassurance and comfort. We also know the road to recovery is going to be a costly one and anything you can give towards getting Beth the help that she needs will be greatly appreciated.

I’m Amelia, one of Beth’s best friends, we are based in Ramsey, Cambs, UK. All of Beth’s friends have got together to make this page and raise the money she needs for treatments.
