Help raise money for a Cambodian English school
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Lena and I am trying to raise money for the construction of 2 new classrooms and a bathroom at a Cambodian school that is very near and dear to my heart. About a year ago, I had the opportunity to volunteer at JB school, an English school located in a remote village about an hour outside of Siem Reap, Cambodia. The school has limited walls, no flooring and no running water. There are roughly 400 students between the ages of 6 and 18, most of which do not have access to basic school supplies. Covid has hit this country hard and the effects are visible everywhere you look but the English schools (that are run entirely on donations) were completely devastated by it. In a country where the economy and jobs are heavily reliant on tourism, knowing English is crucial. The lead teacher of this school, together with his wife and brother, keep this school alive. He works a full time job in the morning and then volunteers at the school in the afternoon, teaching English for 4 hours a day, 6 days a week. In March of this year the local government will be expanded the village road, leading to the demolition of JB school and several homes. As of right now, the school and its community cannot afford to rebuild. Cambodia is technically a third world country and is one of the poorest nation's in the world. About a third of its citizens live on less than a dollar a day. Farming is the main industry for the Cambodian people and there is a level of subsistence living where they grow what they need and have trouble affording anything extra. With your help I am hoping to raise enough money to help them rebuild the school at the back of the current property. The reconstruction will cost an estimated $15,000 US. If you can afford to donate, please do so. Every dollar helps.
