Six years ago, my husband Des was diagnosed with Dementia at just 66. More recently, my beautiful Mum Christl was also diagnosed at 90. Watching two of the people I love most face this heartbreaking disease has changed our family forever.
With Dementia now touching both sides of our family, I can’t help but worry about what the future may hold for our children and grandchildren.
For the past year, a quiet but powerful idea has been growing in my heart, to turn our pain into purpose. To do something bold, meaningful, and hopeful. Something that could help create a future where fewer families have to hear the words, “It’s Dementia.”
That’s how Drive for Dementia was born.
I’m planning a lap of Australia in a camper van, travelling from community to community to raise awareness and vital funds for Dementia research in support of Queensland Brain Institute. Along the way, I’ll be sharing our story, meeting other families impacted by Dementia, and shining a light on the urgent need for research, earlier diagnosis, better treatments, and ultimately a cure.
But I can’t do this alone.
To make Drive for Dementia possible, I need to raise funds to purchase a reliable camper van that will become both my transport and home on the road. Your support will also help cover essential travel costs including fuel, campsite fees, and basic living expenses during the journey.
This isn’t just a road trip. It’s a mission of hope.
It’s for my husband.
It’s for my mum.
It’s for our children.
And it’s for every family who has felt the heartbreak of Dementia.
No family should have to walk this path alone. With your support, we can drive change, one kilometre at a time, and help create a future where dementia no longer steals the people we love.
If you’re able to donate, share this page, or simply follow along and spread the word, you are already part of this journey.
Together, we can help change the story for generations to come.
