UO pole collective is a new student run group at the University of Oregon aiming to build a community for recreational pole dancing on campus, with some aerial on the side. Pole is an incredible workout, activity, and sport that we would love to bring to our school. Additionally we'll incorporate other aerial arts starting with aerial hoop (lyra). Our goal is to cultivate an inclusive community that celebrates fitness, acrobatics, and circus arts.
To host our club we need to have a pole and due to building codes on campus, we're required to use a freestanding pole (aka a stage pole). These have an added benefit of accessibility because they can be used outdoors, perhaps at school events and celebrations some day. However, stage poles are significantly more expensive than traditional tension poles, creating a financial barrier in getting this club running. Obtaining recognition as a student organization can be a a pathway to funding, but in order to gain this recognition a club needs to already have active membership, which is impossible without already having at least one apparatus.
We have an aerial hoop and have found a second-hand stage pole that our club organizers are paying for with their own funds because we believe in this vision. That should be enough to get our club just barely off the ground, so the goal of this fundraiser is to finance an additional apparatus as our membership grows.
Please share this and support if you can, we would appreciate it greatly!
