Hi my name is Jessica and I am dog Mom to this beautiful little doggo. Rufus is a beloved five year old Boston terrier who has enriched and brought so much love and joy to our family over the last three years. Rufus had a rough start and had a less then ideal life. He suffered some abuse in the beginning and had unstable living conditions. Our family took him in and he is just a lovable ball of energy who loves to snuggle under the blankets and play fetch. He means so much to both my kids Brooklyn and Mason. He also happens to be fiercely bonded to my son and his ever watchful and sworn protector (this is a job that Rufus takes very seriously.) Last evening Rufus started showing signs of decline. He wasn't eating, he wasn't drinking, he didn't come and greet my son in his regular cheerful manner (he spins around in circles repeatedly to show his joy) when he came home from school yesterday afternoon. He didn't make a sound when my other dogs barked last evening (he normally takes his role of watch dog very seriously) and he was very lethargic. I decided that I would wait and see what he was like in the morning based on that we would take him to the vet. Unfortunately, Rufus didn't improve and this morning he fell off the bed and then just wouldn't get up. He had no color to the membranes in his mouth and his paws were cool to touch. It was very clear he was unwell and needed serious intervention. Rufus has an immune mediated type of anemia and he requires a blood transfusion and medication in order for his now critical status to improve and will require follow up vet care and medications following the next little while. The vet bills and interventions are quite costly even cutting corners where we can. I have been off work since the spring due to my own challenges and I am currently on long term disability. Finances were already spread pretty thin but, this additional cost is just not something I can shoulder. It hasn't been an easy year for our family and Rufus is a beloved family member. Given the bond that Mason shares with Rufus I know his little heart will be broken and he will be devastated if Rufus can't get these immediate interventions to stabilize his status and the follow up vet care he requires. If you have anything to give our family would appreciate it most of all my kids.
Every little bit helps. Thank you.
