Hi there,
We are Mauricio and Camila and our loved furry companion Nala needs your help.
We are international students that decided to come live/study in Australia around six years ago, and about three years ago Nala came into our lives. We decided to adopt her with the intentions of giving her a better life like any animal deserves. Despite our circumstances as students, we’ve been doing the best we can to give her the best life. Unfortunately during the last 4 weeks things have been a little tough for her and for us, not just emotionally but financially.
Around mid January Nala started limping and at first we weren’t worried because we thought she just had a sore leg after getting the zoomies. As her limping didn’t stop we took her to the vet, they couldn’t find anything and just gave her anti inflammatories and told us that if the leg wouldn’t improve in a few weeks she needed X-rays to have a more clear image of the problem that was causing the limping. Following the vets advice we took her back to get the X-rays done and they found that she had torn ligaments on her left back knee, which with a lot of rest and medicine will heal. Nala has always been a very playful dog, she loves running and going for long walks and unfortunately with her sore leg she couldn’t do any of that, she was only getting short walks as the vet recommended and she was showing a remarkable improvement.
-by that time the money we had spent($1.200 in consultation, medicine and X-ray) wasn’t a big deal as we are fully committed to do everything in our hands for her-
Last Sunday everything started turning grey, Nala was laying down in the backyard and suddenly she started crying and running around the house, licking her affected leg. Mauricio settled her down and after a few minutes she was quiet and relaxed, but unfortunately limping even worse than before, this time not even putting her paw on the ground. We took her to emergency on the next day, sadly the diagnostic was something we weren’t expecting. She had Cruciate Ligament rupture and required TPLO surgery ASAP. During the rest of Monday and Tuesday we contacted a dozen of vets around Melbourne trying to find the soonest available appointment for the surgery as we were seeing NALA in a really uncomfortable and painful situation. We found a surgeon available for Tuesday 2nd of March. Our only hope is for her to get well as soon as possible so she can go back 100% to her normal self. She required hospitalization for a day and requires around 8 weeks to recover in which she has to be enclosed and under supervision at home.
The estimate for the surgery, medicine and post care that the vet gave us is $8.300
This is a very unfortunate situation not just for Nala but for us, and this is why we’re here asking for your help.
We have been forced to take days off from our casual jobs and one of us is gonna have to take time off to be at home looking after Nala, making our financial situation a little bit tough.
We deeply appreciate all the help you can give us and I’m sure Nala will too.
