Help raise funds for Amelon's medical treatment

Dear friends and all supporters,

We hope you have a good start to the new year 2022.

We've started a new fundraising campaign via the GoFundMe channel to help our much-loved Eritrean boy Amelon Kaleab Teweldemedhin.

Amelon is the first and only child born to healthy non-consanguineous parents on 7th June 2010. He passed through unremarkable neonatal period but a few weeks later his mother noticed some health problems such as poor body tone. Despite the treatments and support the child was delayed in acquiring all his milestones including a significant delay in speech. Amelon was, therefore, diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Tonic Colonic Epilepsy.

The typical health issues are that Amelon often is unable to differentiate objects and persons in his surroundings and at times does not respond to his mother at all. He frequently has a very low concentration in his usual and ordinary activities and usually doesn’t control his body balance, urine, and stool. Generally, he is weak physically and often cannot recognize what’s is right and wrong therefore causing him to act or respond aggressively towards people. With the help and commitment of his mother,  Amelom was able to start nursery school but was forced to stop sooner due to the above health issues, including hyperactivity and severe communication problems.

His mother- Helen is a very kind and dedicated person and she spent most of her life providing medical support for military personnel in the front-line and around the rural areas of the Assab region of Eritrea. Helen always reported and attended available medical centers in the region. With the unwavering help of close friends, she tried her best and spent years traveling between Eritrea and Sudan looking for affordable medical treatment for her much loved and only son. The boy was referred to relevant specialists and hospitals and tried medical treatment at government and private medical institutions in Eritrea as well as  in Sudan. Unfortunately, all the efforts and treatments did not bear fruit to Amelom and his mother.

The final medical treatment and assessment report revealed that the problem will likely get worse, meaning he may in the future have a very slim chance of recovery which is a devastating prospect for a young boy who along with his mother yet fighting against all odds to get out of it. The doctors, therefore, strongly suggested to his mother that Amelon could only be effectively treated in Europe.

So dear friends and supporters, we've been made aware that the total cost will be around15000Euro. We all know that life is too short and Amelon is unable to live an ordinary life and has no chance to attend school at the moment. We also know his mother is getting exhausted in combating the challenge and trying to ensure a basic life for her beloved and only son. She is financially unable to cover the finance required and has been seeking support from close relatives, friends, and other supporters across the world.
We're confident and hopeful that by the grace of the Lord and your kind support there is light at the end of the tunnel.

That's why we are once again seeking the help of those who are able to contribute as any further delays will worsen the situation. As mentioned the fundraising target is 15000 Euros ( approximately £13500) and incorporates main hospital treatment and associated costs and needs that the family will encounter along the way including further medical support and necessary check-ups. The funds needed will also cover flights, accommodation, and general expenses associated with long stays away from home as well as physical therapy and other treatments to manage and resolve the health issue.

Once Amelon has had the required treatment and intensive rehabilitation, we hope he will lead a relatively pain-free life (emotionally and physically) and be able to at least start attending school before it’s too late.

Please note that any money raised that isn’t used for Amelon’s medical treatment would be donated to another family in a similar situation or to the various charities that have helped them along the way.

Thank you so much for all your support, kind messages, generosity, and for helping us reach our target!

Amelon, we are all behind you because we love you so much. May God bless and keep you healthy so that your Mummy and the whole community can see you through this!
