Help Raise Funds for Olaf the Diabetic Alert Dog
Donation protected
Hi there,
I wanted to start off by saying thank you for your interest in making a donation. Having a diabetic alert dog has been my dream for the past couple of years. Now, that dream has finally started to become reality! Let me tell you a little bit about myself, before I introduce the star of the show, Olaf. My name is Andreas Borgh, and I have been a diabetic for 7 years now. I was diagnosed right before my freshman year of Hugh school. It was devastating in many ways for me as it would change my life's path permanently. Over time I have worked at it and accepted my diabetes. It is no longer something that I want to hide or be ashamed of. I have been fortunate enough to be able to have the support of my family and doctors. However, there has been one thing that I feel could vastly increase the quality of my life: A diabetic alert dog. These dogs are costly and not covered by insurance. They are extensively trained to smell hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia. This would help me to keep my numbers in an even better range. I have always dreamed of being a pilot. A little over two years ago, the FAA decided to allow diabetics to appeal to become certified under special issuance. The requirements are super strict about getting approval from the FAA. This dog would help make sure that I don't go low or high in my sleep and have technical difficulties with my medical devices. Being type one has affected my life in many ways. While there is a lot I struggle with, it has also brought me the opportunity to meet Olaf. Olaf is a one year old English cocker spaniel, who is finishing up his training in Kentucky
. Mr O is being trained as an in home service dog, which would fit my life perfectly. He is a funny, adventurous, and smart boy who anyone would be lucky to have. Right now, I am fundraising in hopes of gaining enough money to pay for his fees, transportation and various supplies. If you are interested in making a larger donation, and would like it to be able to write it off your taxes, please reach out to me directly and we can work with the wonderful trainer, Libby, who has made this all happen and is 501c3 certified.
