Hello, and thank you for looking at this fundraiser, which, because of the devastating effects of the COVID-19 virus and the UK wide lockdown, is a sad necessity.
Oaklands is a family-owned business that has been teaching people to ride for nearly 50 years! We are a British Horse Society Approved Centre, a Pony Club Centre and work very closely with the Riding for Disabled, every week teaching a wide variety of children and adults, including those with special needs, to ride. The business is built from a love and passion for horses and we believe everyone should have the chance to experience the freedom of riding - A horse will not discriminate as so many others do!
The current pandemic has impacted on countless businesses and lives. For us at Oaklands Riding School this has meant the closure of our gates to our many customers, the cancellation of all individual and group lessons for the past few weeks and for however long the lockdown measures are in place. This is devastating as our income has just turned off overnight.
We are certainly no regular business, we cannot walk away, shut the door, turn the key, and return when this is all over. Our costs continue; shoeing, veterinary care, feedstuffs, hay, bedding, it's all still required. In addition, we still have some business overheads to pay, plus yard and field maintenance which must be on going for the animal’s welfare.
To try and keep our overheads down we have had to simply turn away many of our team of over 50 horses, all fit, shod, and ready for the coming summer and cut the hours or furlough some of our long-standing members of staff. However, the horse’s basic needs remain whilst the revenue required to pay those expenses has dried up. At the moment we don’t know when the lockdown will be lifted and the business can start up again, so we are asking for some help.
We know everyone is struggling right now in these uncertain times, but any donation will help make an impact and will be very much appreciated.
