Raihan is a 22-year-old photographer living in rural Afghanistan, and I have been lucky to call her my friend for the past two years. Her work as a photographer is captivating, offering a rare and honest window into contemporary Afghan life. Through her camera lens, Raihan is determined to tell the stories of non-literate Afghan women—one of the most oppressed and silenced groups in the world. These are stories that are often lost or overlooked, and Raihan’s passion is to bring them to life, giving these women a voice and a platform.

Raihan’s dedication to her craft is inspiring, but she faces significant challenges due to limited resources. To continue her important work, Raihan needs better photography equipment: a quality lens, a sturdy carrying case, and an upgraded phone for editing her photos. With these tools, she will be able to capture and share the powerful stories of Afghan women, helping the world see and understand their experiences.
