This is a hard one to write...
About 11 months ago, I received news that I had been diagnosed with Hepatocellular Carcinoma, which in other terms, Liver cancer. This news came shortly (3 days to be exact) after finding out we were pregnant with our beautiful son. Becoming parents has been a desire of ours for quite some time and we finally got our miracle. Unfortunately, our excitement quickly shared a seat with heartbreak.
In the beginning of this journey we learned that I only had 1 tumor on the liver and they decided to do a treatment called a T.A.R.E.. Well that procedure backfired and I ended up with 3 additional tumors 60 days after the treatment. That 1 procedure took me from being unstaged to now being staged/graded to a grade B (intermediate) for liver cancer. The Dr. wanted me to undergo the T.A.R.E a second time which i refused as my body had an adverse reaction. Resection was not an option due to the size of the tumor and now the spread of it after the procedure.
Shortly after finding out that I had additional tumors my wife and I started searching for a second opinion. We finally found one that we felt we could trust. I was pulled from work because of the ware and tare it was putting on my body. I was becoming weak and weary. While being unemployed, my wife was also on maternity leave and had to return to work early. During this time, our finances and savings dwindled quickly as we attempted to quietly pay for treatments.
Second Opinion Dr.
Once we had our first appointment with our 2nd opinion Dr. he wanted to do a biopsy and CT scan to see what my liver was doing and also see if there was an underlining issue and it turns out there was a problem with my gallbladder which started all of this. They found that I had stage 4 gallbladder cancer which is where the cancer had initially started, they also stated that I have spots on the lining of my lungs and spinal cord. That is information that I was never informed about with my first dr.
My Oncology team came to the conclusion that the only thing they could do for me is a combination of immunotherapy and chemotherapy a very potent combination. My wife and I are avid believers in holistic homeopathic therapies and have found them to be effective thus far towards my healing.
I think it goes without saying that cancer treatments of any kind are EXPENSIVE. As the primary bread winner (currently out of work) this has placed a great financial burden on my family. In addition, my care has become an around the clock need. My wife is unable to be home and manage my care as needed due to her work schedule and taking on the burden of the family. We are also new parents, having a newborn is a job, one she has taken on with much grace. However, we can't do this alone. We need our tribe!!
Why do we need your help?
- Our income has completely dwindled
- It will help me pay for at least 2-3 rounds of treatments
- It will help alleviate financial stress which will allow my wife to be at home to help with my care for at least a couple of months
- Help with the dietary supplements needed to maintain good health while continuing treatments
- Special organic foods
