Rahaf Youset Badr, a 13-year-old Palestinian girl from Gaza, became the sole caregiver of her three younger sisters after both parents were killed during the genocide. her mother due to illness due to the Israeli occupation blockade, leaving the children with no support. Rahaf says she now wakes up each day to wash, dress, feed, and tend to her sisters, including one who has leg injuries and an open wound she must clean and medicate herself, describing how she has become "like their mother overnight." She explains that she dreamed of continuing her education but is now forced to abandon school to keep her siblings alive, wishing only for things to return to how they were and for her father's salary to be reinstated so she can provide for them. Her message to the world is simple: she carries a burden no child should bear, and she hopes her father can "rest in peace" knowing she is trying to fulfill his dream.
