Rafael Rendon is a devoted father and a peaceful man who has been working hard to rebuild his life in the United States. On March 10th, Rafael was suddenly detained by ICE officers who did not identify themselves and used unnecessary force, including tazing and beating him before taking him away. He is now being held in an immigration detention facility in El Centro, far from his home and loved ones in San Diego, simply because there was no room in local facilities.

Rafael’s situation is urgent. He entered the US legally after surviving a shooting in Mexico and is seeking safety and a chance to start over. Despite his efforts to find pro-bono legal help, no one has been able to take his case. Thankfully, a lawyer has agreed to represent him, but Rafael cannot afford the legal fees on his own. Without help, he faces the risk of deportation back to a dangerous situation.
