UPDATE!
I'm home!!! It feels great to be in my own room and with my family and dogs :-)
I have a nurse and a Physical Therapist that come to my home to check on me and help with my recovery. The picture above is 1 of my femur surgery and how it looks today. The swelling in my legs has finally gone down, and I can see my ankle bones. Never knew I would be so happy to see my feet. I am not doing much on a daily basis. I do my exercises, which isn't much right now. I have to move my ankles and feet up and down. I am doing my school classes online so I don't fall behind. I do a lot of watching TV and surfing the Internet. I still have a long way to go, however, every day I know I am getting closer.
Most of all, I want to say "thank you" for your continued support and prayers!!
Hi, I'm Mason, but all my friends call me Racin' Mason. I'm a 14-year-old Freshman in High School and I stay busy with a lot of activities. I play on the City Baseball league and the school wrestling team, but my real passion is racing!! I've been riding dirt bikes since I was 4, and in the last couple of years, I've started racing Outlaw Karts. Even with a packed schedule, I work hard to keep my grades up and give my best in everything I do.
Last week, my life took an unexpected turn. I went out riding dirt bikes with my friend along the canal, and I didn't see a cement drainage pump in time. I hit it full speed and the next thing I remember is being thrown 17 feet into the air, thinking I might not survive. I woke up in the hospital, so thankful to be alive!! I can't even begin to express how grateful I am to God for saving me. I broke my left femur, my right hand and tore both my ACL'S. After 2 major surgeries: one to place a rod and pins in my femur and another to repair my ACL'S--I now face a long and painful recovery.
This experience has been tough on my family, especially my Dad. He's always been my hero, and I can't imagine how scared he was seeing me rushed to the Trauma Unit. During my week in the hospital, I saw the stress and worry this has caused him. My dad is self-employed, and he's had to miss a lot of work to be by my side. I know he's also worried about how we will manage medical bills. Between taking care of me and trying to keep up with his work, it is a lot for one person to handle.
That's why I am reaching out. I'm sharing my story and asking for help to cover medical bills. If you are able to, your support would mean the world to me and my dad.
Thank you so much for taking time to read this and for any help you can offer.
With gratitude,
Mason (Racin' Mason)
