Hi everyone! My name is Rachel, and I’m currently a first-year student in the Doctor of Occupational Therapy program. I’m passionate about helping individuals live more independent and meaningful lives.
This November, I have the opportunity to travel to Belize with Therapy Volunteers International for a one-week fieldwork experience. During this trip, I will be working alongside licensed clinicians to provide pediatric therapy services to children in underserved communities. Throughout my education and clinical experiences, I’ve discovered how powerful occupational therapy can be, not just in improving physical abilities, but in helping people participate fully in their daily lives. This trip is especially meaningful to me because it combines my passion for healthcare with service and cultural learning.
In Belize, many children do not have access to the therapy services they need. Being able to contribute, even in a small way, to improving a child’s ability to play, learn, and engage in everyday life is something that truly motivates me. While in Belize, I will: assist in providing pediatric therapy services to children, work with experienced clinicians and learn hands-on techniques, help support families, caregivers, and local communities, and gain cross-cultural experience that will shape me as a future occupational therapist.
I am raising funds to help cover the cost of travel, housing, and program fees for this experience. As a college student preparing for graduate school, this opportunity is incredibly valuable—but also financially challenging. Any support—big or small—would mean so much to me and will directly help me take part in this life-changing experience. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for supporting me on this journey. Even if you’re unable to donate, sharing this page would help me more than you know!
