Rachel, my friend of 13 years, has always been an inspiration for those around her. Recently, she was diagnosed with Lupus and MCAS, which has made daily life incredibly challenging. These conditions have caused her to struggle with work, experience constant fatigue, periods of dizziness, and gastrointestinal issues that make it difficult for her to function as she once did. Despite this, Rachel continues to show remarkable strength and resilience.
A few days ago I was asked to think of a person that I admired and Rachel was the first to come to mind. She is the kind of person who infuses joy and energy into every situation. She’s the first to try something new, set ambitious goals, and reach them. Whether she’s climbing rocks, hiking mountains, running races, or joining in on a dance, Rachel’s enthusiasm is contagious. She’s also the biggest cheerleader for those around her, always encouraging others to find their best selves.
Over the years, I’ve coined the phrase “pulling a Rachel,” which means finding the strength to do something you thought you couldn’t. It’s a testament to her sheer determination.
Now, Rachel needs our help. Her insurance isn’t covering much of the testing and treatment she needs, and she’s facing lots of medical expenses for specialist appointments and visits to a functional medicine doctor. It’s unlike Rachel to ask for help—she’s usually just “pulling a Rachel". If you’ve seen Rachel around town and had no idea she’s struggling, it’s because she’s strong as hell and keeps on trucking.
With our support, Rachel can access the care she needs to continue living life as fully as she always has. Please consider donating whatever you can to let her know that sometimes “pulling a Rachel” means leaning on friends, family, and neighbors.
