Rachael is a former Alaska State Trooper who was in a horrific motor vehicle accident during a high speed pursuit while attempting to apprehend a fleeing offender while on duty in 2023. The accident occurred while she was acting as a field training officer and training a new State Trooper Recruit. Her vehicle was hit at over 90 mph. After two and a half years, she still suffers from a traumatic brain injury, PTSD, and other bodily injuries. Unfortunately, she now has permanent disabilities and will never go back to work with the Troopers - her life long dream to serve the people of the State of Alaska.
Through her recovery, Rachael has participated in recovery efforts such as physical therapy, speech therapy, vision therapy, cognitive/executive function therapy, psychotherapy, and routine visits to primary care as well as her brain injury physician.
While Rachael still isn’t able to work, the hope is the service dog will help her reintegrate into doing normal daily tasks (inside and outside the house) and eventually help get back to some form of working capabilities. Her motor vehicle accident has completely turned her life upside down. She is still dealing with the expenses of living, outstanding medical bills, and the uncertainly of where her life with be in the next few years.
She still, after 2.5 years, is battling a workman’s compensation case and up until recently, that agency has stopped all compensation to include monthly wages and medical expenses related to the injury. Her disability through the State of Alaska is only at 40%, which goes to her living expenses.
The funds would cover the cost of the dog to be trained, immediate vet expenses and service animal gear (vests, leash’s, crate, vaccines, patches).
Rachael will be working with a local trainer who specializes in many working dog services, including PTSD and medical disabilities.
It has been a long road of recovery for Rachael and there is still plenty more to come. Please consider donating to this go fund me to help Rachael obtain and train a service dog specializing in her disabilities.
