Help Me Get to the Start Line

My name is Quintessa, and I am a full-time wheelchair user living with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a degenerative connective tissue disorder.

This past year has held both the greatest joy of my life and some of the hardest moments I’ve ever faced. I welcomed my beautiful daughter into the world—while also experiencing chronic pain, frequent major joint dislocations, and the loss of my ability to walk.

More recently, I’ve been diagnosed with hip dysplasia and severe SI joint instability, adding another layer to the physical and emotional challenges I navigate every day.

I miss the simple things: moving without fear, feeling strong in my body, and trusting it to support me.

Why This Goal Matters Now

Because of the complexity of my condition, correcting my pelvic joints will likely be one to two years away. That means a long period of waiting—managing pain, protecting my joints, and trying not to lose hope.

I realized I needed a tangible, meaningful goal I could work toward now—something that helps me rebuild strength, confidence, and purpose during this waiting season.

That’s why I’ve set a new goal for myself:

Training for a wheelchair race this summer,

with hopes of continuing toward higher-level competition and possibly even the next Summer Paralympics.

This goal isn’t just about racing—it’s about reclaiming my independence and believing in my body again.

Why I Need Help

I currently am borrowing a racing wheelchair but it doesn't fit my body specifications.

Using a chair that isn’t made for my body isn’t just uncomfortable—it’s dangerous. An ill-fitting chair can cause:

Skin breakdown

Increased joint instability

More dislocations

Injuries that could delay future medical treatment

A custom-fitted racing wheelchair is essential for me to train safely.

Where Your Donation Goes

I want to be completely transparent about how funds will be used:

$6,000 → Ordering the racing wheelchair

The remaining $1,000 of our $7,000 long-term goal → Safety equipment (helmet, gloves) and race admission fees

Every dollar moves me closer to the start line—and keeps me safe along the way.

Thank You for Being Part of This Journey

As a thank-you, every donor’s name will be displayed on my racing wheelchair at every event this year—so you’ll be with me at every push forward and every finish line crossed.

Your support helps me do more than race.

It helps me hold onto hope, strength, and purpose during a long and uncertain medical journey.

Thank you for believing in me
