Olive and Quinten’s story is one everyone who knows them treasures. High school sweethearts from Colonial Heights, Virginia, they met as band kids, fell in love, and married straight out of high school. They built their life side by side, through school, hard work, and countless moments of joy. This past year, they both proudly graduated college! Olive in her field and Quinten from VCU with a degree in Environmental Sciences.

Which is why it came as no surprise when they shared the news: they were moving to Dublin, Ireland, so that they could both continue their studies to receive their master's degrees. Travel, growth, and chasing dreams have always been a part of who they are. Everyone cheered them on as they stepped into this adventure together. They sold everything they had, packed very few suitcases and their 3 cats, and went on the trip of a lifetime. They were filled with excitement for the future and the adventures ahead.

Then, everything changed.

Just a few weeks into settling into their new life, Quinten started feeling what seemed like a simple muscle cramp. They didn’t think much of it but went to the doctor for a checkup. But when the doctor ran bloodwork, he was immediately sent to the ER. After scans and tests, they received news no one ever expects to hear at their age: Quinten has Stage 4 colon cancer.

The diagnosis was devastating, not just because of its severity but because it came completely out of nowhere. This diagnosis blindsided them, their families, and everyone who loves them. One day they were living out their dreams abroad, the next they were thrown into a fight they never imagined.

For the next several months, Quinten will be receiving treatment in Ireland, where they are grateful for excellent cancer care. The school he is attending has been immensely helpful through all of this, allowing him leniency and extra assistance in his health. But they must also prepare for what comes next. Depending on how treatment responds, they may need to return to the U.S. for the next phase of care. Because of international healthcare restrictions, they cannot simply transfer treatment across the EU. The uncertainty of what lies ahead means they must be ready for anything: extended stays abroad, emergency travel, and unexpected medical costs.

Through it all, Olive and Quinten are determined to stay optimistic. They are leaning on faith, love, and the incredible community of friends and family who have always been inspired by their kindness and deep love for one another. They are asking for strength, for hope, and for the support of the community that loves them so dearly.

Olive and Quinten are the kind of people who make every space warmer just by being there. Olive is the friend who makes you feel truly heard, who can turn the heaviest day into laughter. Quinten is the steady, kind, thoughtful friend. He is passionate about learning and the world around him. Together, they embody resilience and joy — the kind that inspires everyone who knows them.
