Almost a year ago, I agreed to catsit Quinnie as a temporary situation. But I quickly noticed that she was in pain from dental issues. When I contacted the original owners, they said they couldn't afford treatment and wanted me to take her back to the shelter.

But pets aren't something you should be able to return so easily. I just couldn't do it – so Quinnie and I became a family.

I tried to manage her symptoms the best I could. But only after a few months with Quinnie, our vet told us that she ultimately needs surgery for her severe gingivitis and periodontal disease. She has stopped eating, and she's been sad and lethargic. We know that this surgery will help her feel at rest, after years of neglected vet care, but the estimate is over $2000. That is more than a recent grad can afford, and I'm very scared to ask for help, but I wanted to try for Quinnie.

She's been such a wonderful, unexpected gift. After I lost my original ESAs in a terrible accident, she's been the emotional support pet I wanted to get back. She's sweet, gentle, and loves to cuddle – even while in pain. She deserves to live without it.
