Help Quinn Charnock’s recovery from Brain surgery
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Rebekah and I am fundraising on behalf of my brother Bayden Charnock and sister in-law Emma Powell who need support whilst their 7 year old daughter Quinn undergoes brain surgery for Arnold- Chiari Malformation and Syringomyelia.
Chiari malformation and syringomyelia are related conditions affecting the brain and spinal cord.
Chiari malformation involves a structural abnormality where brain tissue extends into the spinal canal.
Syringomyelia is a condition where fluid-filled cavities (syrinx) form within the spinal cord. Syrinx can grow and damage the spinal cord by compressing nerve fibers that transmit information to and from the brain.
Bayden and Emma have been advocating for Quinn for years trying to get an answer for her symptoms as they knew something wasn’t right. She has been frequently unwell.
Now that they finally have an answer, she needs to be treated as soon as possible to prevent further damage. If left untreated, it is highly likely that Quinn will become paralysed and lose complete function of her body.
Quinn has been experiencing quite a few of the symptoms of both diseases including severe headaches, nausea, vomiting, muscle weakness including her legs giving way, pins and needles and is starting to show signs of urinary incontinence. These symptoms are frequent and as you could imagine the negative impact that has on a usually, very active child that is now no longer allowed to participate in every day things that 7 year olds should be doing like one of her main interests, gymnastics or roughhousing with her sister and brother.
Quinn’s recovery from surgery is expected to be long, hard and incredibly painful. She will need approximately 6 weeks off of school if everything goes well.
As you could imagine the toll this diagnosis has taken on her parents, mentally and emotionally, I would like to try and raise some funds that would allow them both to take time off of work and not have to worry about bills or putting food on the table while Quinn recovers. They also have a 4 and 8 year old to take care of.
This will be a lifelong condition for Quinn but we are hoping that surgery helps relieve a build of pressure in her brain and spinal cord and alleviates her pain.
As of today (25.05.2025) Quinn received her spinal MRI results and due to how her symptoms are progressing, she is getting moved to a category 1 (urgent) from a category 2 and should have a date for surgery within 30 days.
