Raven’s Story

Hi, I’m Raven. I’m a gay ex-Muslim in Saudi Arabia, and simply existing as myself can mean a death sentence. Under Saudi law, consensual same-sex relations are criminalized and punished by flogging, imprisonment, or even execution under a strict interpretation of Sharia. Apostasy—leaving Islam—is likewise a capital offense, with no right to a fair trial or appeal.

Every day is lived in terror. I have no one I can trust for fear they’ll report me, so I remain isolated and silent, my heart pounding at every knock on the door. My own father has already tried to kill me twice—“honor” violence that goes unpunished in a system labeling homosexuality and atheism as extremist ideas.

People like me have no rights. If anyone reports you for simply being different, you can be thrown into a cell alongside murderers and rapists, treated as if you’re the same threat they are. Reporting violence only means risking imprisonment alongside your attackers.

Once, I was lured by someone pretending to be queer, then kidnapped and held in a house full of men. A gun was pressed to my forehead; I was threatened with death for just being myself. They stole everything—my phone, my documents—and left me broken on the street.

I’ve endured death threats, sexual harassment, and the constant fear of arrest or worse for years. I’ve been waiting until June, when I turn 21 and can travel without my father’s consent. All I need is USD 1,333 to buy a one-way ticket out of this hell. Please help me find safety and freedom from the violence and fear that threaten me every single moment.
