Help Qi with Tooth Replacement Surgery

Donation protected
Hey y'all,
Reaching out to the community on behalf of my incredible friend Qi who is in urgent need of financial support for dental surgery on her front tooth as well as rent and life expenses. Qi is a single Black mother and working artist living in the Bay Area who has come up on some hardships recently. She's a very hard working woman and a beautiful light who does so much for her community.

Here is her story:

When she was a kid she was in an accident with a motor vehicle that resulted in a chipped tooth. The adults that were responsible for taking her to the dentist to handle it did not do so at the time. As an adult she corrected the issue. Recently when her tooth became loose, in an effort to recement it, they learned it was fractured and nonexistent. Expecting to go in for a regular cementing, she ended up missing work and leaving the dentist without a front tooth.

Prior to the pandemic she was battling a legal case that resulted in the loss of her job, loss of vehicle, and inability to get hired in her professional field. As the pandemic began to unfold Qi was able to secure employment although it was very difficult to catch up on late bills and be consistent with rent at this point. On top of that, being on house arrest and paying nearly $400 a month for mandated GPS equipment has been an additional hurdle as well as expense.

Here are some words from Qi:

"I lost my father to gun violence at the age of 12, my mother is an elderly woman and I have no familial support. As a former foster care youth and teen mom, I know what it is like to face adversity and accept loss. Coming from families riddled with poverty, racism, mental health issues, and violence I know how easy it can be to give up. But I have never given up. I put myself into foster care at the age of 14, I emancipated myself and started paying rent at the age of 17, and I have made a career in social work and in music directly serving my people- women, children and people of color in my communities. I have founded the only body positive and women empowering Women's rap group in the Bay Area, who prior to the pandemic worked with local artists, DJ’s & San Francisco’s famous El Rio Bar to raise money for people in need and a local community program for young women. I worked too hard to break the cycles of trauma in my son's life and to have become the beautiful woman I am to accept that now I have to be toothless and financially unstable in a global pandemic.

I am calling on the community to help me in not only paying for my dental surgery but also supporting me and my son in catching up on our bills and paying rent. To anyone who supports me, my music, my life as a mother, my son’s life and our ability to thrive I ask you to contribute what you can. Every amount is appreciated and every dollar directly impacts my ability to continue to break the cycles of trauma and financial disempowerment within my family.
In early October I am set to be detained. I am hoping to take care of this surgery before that time."
