Hate to have to do this buuut here we are :(
On Thursday night I took MrPeanutButter to a friends house, we were parked outside and I was holding MrPeanutButter in one hand while grabbing her bed out of the boot with the other, it was a beautiful quiet evening and we were both looking forward to having a lovely sleepover. I didn't see a cat run past but Mrpeanutbutter absolutely did, and my usually gentle sweet docile greyhound had a sudden lust for cat-blood and ripped herself out of my grip to chase after the feline that she decided would be her next snacc. (she's never chased a cat before, she does't even know what a cat is, I didn't think cats were even allowed outside, it was all very unexpected). Unfortunately Mrpeanutbutter is the fastest dog on the planet and my attempt to catch her was embarrassingly unsuccessful, the cat however had a plan and darted across the road infront of a car and luckily it got away untouched, sadly MrPeanutButter was right behind and the car drove straight over her. Without going into too much detail it was the most gruesome thing I've ever seen and we will both be traumatised for a very very long time
I'd just like to take this moment to publicly apologise for waking up an entire neighbourhood by screaming 'PEANUT BUTTER' over and over, that must have been very weird and confusing, and also to thank the 10 or so people that rushed out to help, stopped traffic, called an emergency vet, got peanut off the road and packed us into cars and drove us off and then even cleaned the road afterwards, especially the girl who co-ordinated all of this while wearing nothing but a towel, you're an angel and I love you
I thought for sure my lil peanut was a goner but with the help of these amazing strangers and a lot of luck she is looking like she will pull through. She's been at the vets for 2 days now and unfortunately due to the ol 'rona I'm not able to visit her which is heartbreaking but if all goes well she should be able to come home next week
her injuries are quite horrific as expected, her front legs are missing a lot of skin and we are waiting to see if this can grow back or if she'll need skin grafts. Her pelvis is broken, she's in too much pain to try to move her rear legs yet, she has a wound on the inside of her thigh that is yet to stop bleeding, she lost a tooth and her lungs are a lil bruised (I haven't heard anything about the rest of her insides so I think that means they're okay). On the bright side her vitals have stayed good and she didn't endure any head injuries and she is still very pretty
Now's the part where I have to beg for your help, her initial stay at the vets is so far estimated to be around $7000, and once she's home she will need daily vet visits to change her bandages and ongoing appointments for her plethora of injuries over the course of several months on her road to recovery. I know its an exorbitant amount of money to spend on one simple hound, but she's literally my best friend (sorry Ashlee), she's very loved by so many people and she's the goodest dog to ever walk this earth (except for when she's running into traffic but hey nobodies perfect)
I'll be posting updates as she progresses as well as vet bills to keep you all in the loop, me and MrPean would be extreeemely grateful for any help with these expenses as we navigate this very difficult time in our lives
