Help put Coach Brent back on his feet
Help get Brent back on his feet- literally
It’s been a tough year for my friends Brent and his partner Vicki. Brent makes his living as a mountain guide, and like most in his profession his work dried up last spring when Covid shut down our world. Then came the spring run-off which flooded the basement of Brent and Vicki’s home in Exshaw, along with 23 of their neighbours. The flooding lasted almost six weeks and there is strong evidence that it was caused by flood mitigation measures undertaken by the MD of Bighorn in nearby Exshaw Creek.
And then 10 days ago things really went south for Brent. He was climbing recreationally, not guiding, on a route called Homage to the Spider on Mt Louis just outside Banff. It’s a route he has climbed and guided frequently. Unfortunately this was not his day and he suffered a fall on the first pitch. His highest piece of protection failed resulting in a lengthy fall during which he suffered fractures to both calcaneus. (heel) bones. The team was evacuated by the Banff Park Wardens by heli sling.
Prior to becoming a mountain guide, Brent served his country during a 23 year career in the Canadian military, which include tours in both Bosnia and Afghanistan.
Brent has subsequently had surgery, and his recovery will be long, painful and will require expensive rehab and physio to insure the best outcome. Given the nature of his injuries there will be no income, so he needs our help. Please donate generously, it’s the right thing to do.
