I work for a local police department in Broward County and found Mimi living under a garbage compactor and dumpster behind a local grocery store. She seemed very sweet but extremely scared and it was apparent that she did not belong there. I started bringing food and water every day I was working and then was able to team up with a amazing TNR company to get her to a vet for spay and vaccinations. Surprisingly she had already been spayed and after a little investigating it appears that she was more than likely dumped there by her previous owners. Due to all good rescues being past capacity and a house full of recent rescues I had made that year I had no choice but to return her to the location she had been living .
Mimi is such a sweet soul, and soon after I found she had taken in a few kittens that were only a few weeks old, she was their step in mama bear, keeping them safe and being the perfect companion.
A couple months ago I realized she was having a hard time eating and she developed these large open wounds all over her body. An amazing cat rescue that has assisted me multiple times in the past stepped up to assist me in trapping her to get her much needed medical care. A friend from another police department referred me to a wonderful vet they have used alot in the past who agreed to see her right away. Mimi’s open sores are a result of a severe skin condition and allergies that are a form of ulcers. Thankfully they are treatable with multiple rounds of antibiotics and steroids.
The vet administered IV fluids, antibiotics, steroids, and did a full blood panel. Mimi was clear of any of the kitty diseases, which was surprising considering her living conditions. Her blood was good with the exception of signs of infection which was expected due to the ulcers. Further examination revealed the source of the problem with her eating. Mimi has a Oronasal Fistula. This is a hole on the roof of her mouth that goes directly to her sinuses. I had seen her sneeze out her soft food as she was eating previously and this is why. This hole can be repaired but it requires a surgery in which they will take tissue from the gums and the roof of her mouth to plug the hole. This hole is a breeding ground for bacteria and must be fixed to enable her to eat and ultimately survive. She also has a tooth that has been broken all the way down to the root that must be removed.
We cannot move forward with the remainder of her skin treatments and her surgery without help. We are asking for help to get Mimi the surgery she desperately needs and the second round of antibiotics and steroids to complete her treatment to clear up all of her skin ulcers. The rescue is keeping her safe for the time being and we are praying that we will be able to find her a loving home after all treatments and surgery is completed, and she has made a full recovery. Regardless, she will never have to live in the horrific conditions she has endured for way too long.
This sweet angel has had such a rough life after being abandoned by owners. She deserves a fair chance at a good life and with your help we can get all of her broken pieces put back together and show her that there are people that truly care and will do everything in their power to ensure she will never have to be scared, in pain, or alone again. Please donate if possible , every little bit helps … and please share on your social media to assist me in saving a life.
The rescue, Saving 9 Lives & More, is self-funded and has never received grants or donations to help with any of the care needed for any of the lives they have saved. But due to the amount of care that is needed for Mimi it is not possible to do without help. All proceeds will go to the rescue to be used specifically for Mimi’s surgery, skin ulcer’s, after care, and months of recovery.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
