Today I’m reaching out to friends and family to ask for your help. As some of you may know, about 5 years ago my wife and best friend, Lindsey Langolf, was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Lindsey grew up loving to dance, taking part in ballet, was one of the first people I knew in Indiana that hula hooped and performed fire and regularly created choreographed performances. She took part in Polynesian dancing, participated in local theatre performances and purchased an aerial rig to learn/perform silks and Lyra. Dancing and movement based arts were one of the most important aspects and sources of inspirations for Lindsey and have been her entire life. It’s hard to imagine what it would be like to have a neurological condition that would prevent you from doing some of the things that you love most and watching the toll it takes on your significant other is pretty heartbreaking. Shortly before her diagnosis she had trouble seeing straight for a few months and still has some issues with vision. She also suffers from neuropathy in her left hand and leg. She has a condition called foot drop that can cause her to catch her toes when walking and fall. This foot drop/neuropathy caused her to eventually fall one day at her parents farm, stretching the ligaments in her ankle and and since then has caused her to fall many times before her leg ever has the chance to heal, to the extent that is has never really been the same and healed fully. The toll of this vicious cycle is that it can be very defeating to lose these abilities and that loss also greatly effects her happiness. She has done everything she can to learn about what vitamins, minerals, supplements can help. A few years ago she discovered a device called the Bioness L300 that could greatly help her quality of life moving forward. The L300 is a wearable device that send electric signals through her muscles causing her foot to contract upward and preventing her from falling. It also helps stimulate the muscles in her leg and has been proven to decrease muscle spasticity (tightness) that prevents proper blood flow and movement. She tried this device out and not only was she so happy with the results, they took a video with and without the device and I could immediately tell the difference in her ability to walk. Overall this device would be a game changer for my favorite person, allowing her to do more for herself, spend more time out of the home getting exercise and recovering and overall improve her happiness. The problem is that the device is $5000 and insurance companies do not help covering these devices at all. She inquired with the insurance company she worked for that carries her and they verified they could not help. She applied for a grant from the MS foundation and they offered very little help financially. For this reason I am coming to all of you to ask for your help in raising the money to purchase this device for her. If you could spare anything at all, every bit helps and we will keep this going until the goal is achieved and we can all purchase this device for her. Thank you all in advance for your thoughts, consideration and help in making this happen!
