Tenaya is our 3-month old french bulldog. She is loving, talkative, energetic, extremely funny, often times silly, and is just the cutest thing in the world. She also checks all the boxes in the frenchie world: very headstrong; snores like a grown man; likes to hang out on our lap whenever we sit down at her level, and if we let her do that long enough, expect to smell her fart and she would not be ashamed! She always goes after bigger dogs because she thinks she is a giant, and she would not stop doing what she was doing "wrong" after a play break. 
We love her for all of that, and she's brought so much joy to our life..

This was Tenaya last night, begging for food. Everything looked normal. Right around bed time, her breathing suddenly became really difficult, and she seemed to be in a lot of pain.  We took her to the ER and the nurses at AIMSS took her in as soon as they could. X-ray revealed that she has pneumonia. At 2:30 am, the doctor decided to hospitalize her, reassuring us that she was in stable condition.

But this morning around 9:30 things took a worse turn. The doctor said Tenaya's lungs were filled with fluid, and she struggled with breathing on her own - the best chance for her was to put her on a ventilator, and Tenaya could die! We were at a loss for words, while listening to the doctor explain how expensive it could get receiving intensive care coupled with ventilator usage.. we did not hesitate and asked the doctor to do whatever it takes to save Tenaya. It was incredibly difficult to bear the thought that there was a chance we did not get to see our lovely Tenaya again...

After hours of anxious waiting, we spoke with the doctor and she wanted us to see Tenaya. For the first time in the longest day ever, Tenaya was there with us again. Except that she was heavily sedated, wrapped up in all kinds of tubes and plugged with catheters. We know she is fighting, but she has to stay in the ICU, and things could still go either direction. Knowing that she could hear us even though she was not conscious, we petted her on her head, told her how much we love her, and encouraged her to keep fighting like a champ! 

Tenaya's prognosis is still unknown, but her youth and strength give us hope. The doctor told us having her on ventilator would have to continue for at least 48 if not 72 hours, and the cost could easily go north of $20k, on top of the $11k we spent today. 

As much as we have every intention to keep fighting with her till the last minute, we had to have a conversation about cost this time, about whether we should keep a cap in the event that this drags on with her condition deteriorating. We really hope it does not come to that, but it is not a small amount of money we can easily pull out of our pockets, which is why we are here..

We really could use your help, $5, $10.. anything would be greatly appreciated. For those of you that know me, know us, this is not something we'd normally do. I do not like asking for help.. let alone asking for money.. but Yang and I do not want to reach a point where money has to get in the way of our decision here, it would literally break our hearts to give up while she has even the slightest chance of making it through..

You may or may not know us well, or know us at all, but your donation would help pay for the critical care she needs, it would prevent the financial burden from becoming the reason we have to give up, and it would make possible for Tenaya to watch another sunset, to have another peaceful sleep, to pick on the big guys, to make a goofy face and for her to celebrate the first Christmas with us.  We thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and we'll be forever grateful for your help in saving Tenaya and making our family whole.
