​The Story of Pumpkin

​I’ve had Pumpkin since she was a tiny kitten. For 12 years, she has been my constant—my shadow, my comfort, and my best friend. Through every rough patch, job loss, and bout of anxiety, Pumpkin has been there. She has a magical way of breaking me out of a panic attack just by being near, grounding me when the world feels like too much.

​She is a typical orange calico: a food-thief, a world-class cuddler, and despite her age, she still has the playful energy of a cat half her years.

​The Hardest Year

​Our bond was tested recently when Pumpkin went missing for an entire month while I was out of town. I searched for her day and night, refusing to give up until I finally brought her home. She was skin and bones, and it took months of intensive care to get her back to a healthy weight.

​But as she finally started to look like herself again, a new battle began.

​The Medical Crisis

​Pumpkin has developed a mass on her chest. What started as a small worry has grown and begun to ulcerate. We tried a round of antibiotics to fight off infection, and while it seemed to help at first, the mass has since worsened and begun to bleed.

​The vet’s verdict is clear: The mass needs to be surgically removed immediately to prevent further suffering and to biopsy it for cancer.
