My name is R. Dale Moses, and I’m the author of THE WICKER BASKET, an allegorical illustrated novel that has been decades in the making. The story follows three young animals—an adventurous deer named I-go, a frightened rabbit named Ah-yam, and a determined weasel named Tuwok—as they set out on a journey to find a legendary place called Wotmon Kondu. This magical land is said to have streets paved with gold, houses with platinum roofs, and windows of crushed diamonds. Along the way, the characters face a greedy giant beaver determined to gnaw down every tree in the forest with his gold buck teeth, dangerous wolves whose only goal in life is self-preservation and procreation, and a circus of treachery with enslaved animals of the world. Each challenge reflects the emotions and struggles we all encounter in life.
I wrote this book in 1989, inspired by the idea that everyone carries within them fear, anger, strength, and character. Through the journey of I-go, Ah-yam, and Tuwok, readers of all ages are invited to reflect on their own growth and self-discovery. The story is deeply spiritual and offers lessons that are especially relevant today, as so many people face uncertainty and hardship. My hope is that THE WICKER BASKET will spark conversation, encourage understanding, and provide comfort to those who read it.
I am self-publishing through Amazon to make the book available in hardback, paperback, e-book, and audiobook formats. The costs of production, illustration, and promotion are significant, and I am reaching out for support to help bring this project to life. Early feedback has been encouraging—a publisher from Doubleday with years of experience told me, “I’ve been in the business for thirty-five years and nothing surprises me. This book surprised me.” With your help, I can share this story with a wider audience and create something meaningful for readers everywhere. Thank you for considering a contribution and for being part of this journey.
