Help Publish the Complete Essays of George Moore
Donation protected
This campaign covers my out-of-pocket expenses for travel from Chicago to London, for 12 packed days of research in the British Library starting on 31 March 2025.
In the British Library, I will find and photograph 83 critical essays by George Moore that were published in 23 daily and weekly newspapers from 1881 to 1933. The essays have never before been collected and digitized.
After traveling to get these essays, I will publish them on George Moore Interactive (GMi) where I have already published nearly 500 others. When the last 83 are added as the result of this campaign, all of Moore's historic art and literary criticism will be freely accessible, searchable, and readable on screens worldwide for the first time.
George Moore (1852-1933) was an eminent Irish author of fiction, memoirs, essays, plays, and poetry. He wrote more than 50 books, hundreds of articles, and thousands of letters — all of them coming back to life on GMi.
I am an independent scholar, editor and publisher. My nonprofit George Moore Interactive LLC is dedicated to kickstarting literary legacies in the digital age, and preparing them for state-of-the-art machine learning.
More Details
Out of pocket expenses covered by this campaign include roundtrip airfare, hotel accommodation, meals, ground transportation, and mobile phone service for one person (myself) in London from March 30 until April 13, 2025.
My labor for 12 full days of research in the British Library, and for curation of the essays afterwards, is self-financed. Funds donated to this campaign are for out-of-pocket travel expenses only.
My research will be conducted in the Reading Room of the British Library, 96 Euston Road, London, NW1 2DB. I have qualified my objectives with librarians to ensure that the archival assets that I need are accessible and the time I have budgeted is reasonable.
When I am in the British Library, each of 83 volumes must be called for, located by staff in the stacks, delivered to the Reading Room, examined at my desk, and then returned before being followed by the next volume. All of the volumes are original print; none has ever been digitized.
My budget is as follows:
- Airfare: $1,016
- Bed and Breakfast: $3,000
- Ground transportation: $240
- Lunch and Dinner: $770
- Mobile phone service: $25
- 15% Contingency: $760
TOTAL for the campaign is $5,809
