Hello, I am Macena Mason. I am an author, speaker, and advocate for the special needs community. I am raising money to publish A New Me: Living Without Labels and to raise money for social media marketing equipment.

The book is an autobiography/self-help book on my life living with epilepsy and healing within the Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities Community. My goal is to help others to see that one with any disability can have many achievements. Also, so that others won't doubt the ability of a child or adult who is different.

I have achieved many goals. At six years old, I learned to play the piano, performed in concerts in church, and later played with a band called Profusion. I traveled to Russia as Student Ambassador of the United States in 1990, a year before graduating in 1991. When nobody believed I could, I even went to college and graduated with an Associate of Arts Degree in Microcomputers in 1996 at Prince George's Community College (MD).

Living with epilepsy has created many challenges. Some challenges were long-lasting that they affect me mentally, physically, and emotionally. Examples of these challenges are teasing and bullying on a daily basis, social skills, and constant seizures. In July 2005, I had brain surgery, alongside many other surgeries and therapies later in life.

Overall, the journey has taught me how to live on my own even with epilepsy for 22 years. The last three years, I have become seizure free!

I ask for your help in raising the confidence of my communities. This book will help many with intellectual disabilities and those who love them. The goal is to help people understand that we are not limited in our abilities to learn, grow and contribute to society, so please help me help other families by sharing my story.
