Hello, I’m Nan Genger, MA, BFA; a mixed-media artist, community activist, and survivor of trauma, who needs donations to help to self publish Be Your Creative Self! I am the publishing house. My jobs are: artist, photographer, photo-editor, writer, editor, proofreader, co-book designer, fundraiser, and project coordinator. Oh, and I have a cheerleader part urging me on with the project! Your financial support will be used to cover the costs of a book designer, marketing expert, and art/photography supplies. Visit www.nangengerart.com for more information about my mixed-media art and workshops.
Be Your Creative Self! is intended to spark creativity, and teach small bits of a therapeutic framework that is practiced around the world. The book shares my personal journey of insight and healing. Like many people, I felt anxious, depressed, and emotionally spent. I had many "coping" behaviors, like alcohol, food restricting and bingeing, and life-threatening self-harm. Today, I know that the bigger the behaviors, the bigger the burdens they are hiding. And so it was art, community, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) that allowed me to safely witness and heal my protected parts holding extreme traumas.
Be Your Creative Self! is a full color 150-page book with step-by-step instructions, art tips, ample journal prompts, and photos of completed artworks created just for the book. The chapters present IFS concepts, like “parts,” and easy art projects with:
* photography
* doodling
* collage
* monoprints
* abstract painting
* mixed-media
* textiles
The book is for a wide audience of creative and self-help enthusiasts, the IFS-curious, clients, as well as clinicians, coaches, teachers, healers and counselors.
I am committed to a community model of healing with my online art workshops The IFS Art Workshop: Make Art About Your Parts and Parts Art for Social Change: The Personal and Political . I intentionally teach these workshops for free to the cis and trans women’s community, many of whom are trauma survivors(ing).
