Help Providence Meadow rebuild
Hello all, It's Dan and Patti from Providence Meadow Caique Sanctuary.
As many of you now know, our home - which is Providence Meadow - suffered catastrophic damage when the remnants of hurricane Ida came through our area last night, September 1st 2021.
Torrential rains poured down upon our region, resulting in a record setting high water flood level of 26.85' - more than 7' above major flood stage...what is now being termed a "once in 500 year flood".
With this unexpected and rapid moving flooding, we were barely able to evacuate the Meadow, on foot, up the back of our property to the safety of high ground in the woods along a set of abandoned railroad tracks behind our property.
After sitting out in the woods for more than 5 hours with 9 separate crates safely containing our 3 dogs Rex, Luna and Lizzie, our 2 cats Parker and Rufus, and our flock of 13 caique parrots - Marley, Nigel, Sunny, Pogo ,Beebee, Tuki, Eddie, Ricky, Mango, Penny, Gilly, Kyle and Scooby, we were finally rescued and taken to an evacuation shelter.
Initial inspections of the house show that flood waters made it nearly 3 feet up into the first floor, including the bird room, after completely filling our basement and submerging our detached garage and the vehicles on our driveway (we had attempted earlier to 'drive out', but access roads on both sides of the Meadow we're already inundated and impassible).
We have decided to put together this GoFundMe to help us to rebuild the Meadow and replace items lost, damaged or destroyed in the flood... this includes the birds cages, toys, lost bulk food in the freezer that was destroyed, the bird room vacuum, heater, air purifier, lighting, perches, accessories, etc.
We also lost and will need to replace all three of our vehicles, the washer, dyer, refrigerator, chest freezer, home furnace, electrical panel and associated parts, etc.
These lists do not include any of our personal belongings - clothes, furniture, electronics, etc that will also need to be replaced or repaired.
For those asking about insurance - yes, we carried mandatory 'flood insurance', but the policy only covers the homes 'structure', not it's 'contents' and has a $5000.00 deductible.
Our auto policies will cover 'fair market value', not replacement values as is typical - so replacement vehicles will require more money out of pocket from us.
All in all, we anticipate being responsible for many tens of thousands of dollars in expenses to get our home, and the Meadow up and running again.
In the meantime while repairs are made, the flock is going to be housed at T&A Parrot Rescue and Sanctuary in West Virginia, the dogs and cats are going to be with friends and family, and Patti and I are going to impose on our daughter for temporary living arrangements.
We are not asking for charity, and we fully expect to be responsible for the vast majority of the costs ourselves, but we have had an amazing outpouring of support, requests and recommendations to start a support GoFundMe, so here it is.
Thank you for considering supporting the rebuilding of Providence Meadow
Love,
Dan and Patti Dockery, and the furry and feathered family members at Providence Meadow
