Help Provide Warm Shelter for Karen

This Just In! ...

We're in the process now of applying for Karen to live out at the Community First! Village. We just got off the Zoom call they require as part of the application process steps they require. Turns out, for a micro home there, it can be as short as 1 to 3 months before you can move in there. YAY!!!

We're looking at the application now and seeing that the move in costs are a security deposit of the amount of rent, ($380) plus the first month's rent $380), plus a $50 application fee. That's a total of $810 she'll need to move in. Her SSDI income is just over $600 per month, so it's not likely she'll be able to come up with that amount within the next 1 to 3 months.

Your donation will go towards her having enough money to cover these fees at Community First!

Every little bit counts, no amount is too small.

Greetings, friends and compassionate souls. My name is Ginger, and today, I'm reaching out on behalf of a dear friend, Karen, who is courageously facing life's toughest battles. Karen, a survivor of domestic violence, is currently unhoused and battling stomach cancer. Despite her relentless efforts to secure stable housing, she faces the harsh reality of long waitlists and daunting application processes.

**Her Story:**
In 2020, Karen arrived in Austin seeking a new life away from a domestic violence situation. Tragically, she was struck by a car shortly after, leaving her disabled and further complicating her quest for stability. Karen's resilience shines through as she actively seeks housing solutions, but the bitter cold of winter poses a significant and immediate threat to her wellbeing.

**Our Immediate Goal:**
I have been assisting Karen, utilizing my skills and knowledge as a social work student. While I've managed to provide temporary relief through a few nights in a low-cost motel, the financial strain is beyond my capacity as a student. Austin's winter shelters are often overcrowded, and, sadly, not always safe for a single woman in her late 40s like Karen.

**How You Can Help:**
We have identified a motel near me, costing $75 per night, inclusive of all taxes and fees. Our goal is to raise $1,500, which will provide Karen with about 20 nights of safe, warm shelter. This is more than just a room; it's a haven for Karen to rest, recuperate, and stay safe from the winter's harshness.

**Your Impact:**
Every donation, no matter the size, brings us closer to ensuring Karen has a safe place during these critical winter months. Your support not only provides shelter but also gives Karen the peace she desperately needs to continue her journey towards stability and health.

In times of need, the power of community is immeasurable. Let's come together to support Karen. Your generosity can light up her path during these dark times. Thank you for considering a donation, and for sharing Karen's story with others who might help.

Together, we can make a difference, one warm night at a time.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Ginger
