Help Provide Lifesaving Care for Carolina

My friend Maya has raised nearly a million dollars through her grant writing to save homeless animals all across New Mexico. Now, she needs our help to save her own cat, Carolina.

Two weeks ago, previously healthy 5-year-old Carolina’s belly began growing to an alarming size. She’s received lab tests, blood work, medications, and xrays, that resulted in a likely diagnosis of cancer. After multiple visits to the emergency vet, doctors are working hard to get more information, leaving Maya devastated about Carolina’s uncertain future and quality of life.

Maya has already spent $2,214 in the process of trying to figure out what’s wrong with little Carolina, and will very likely incur thousands more in medical bills in the weeks to come. Currently, Carolina needs an ultrasound with an estimated price tag of $1,101.55.

Carolina was adopted from the Santa Fe Animal Shelter in 2016 by Maya, after spending the beginning months of her life on the street as a feral cat. She has overcome many behavioral challenges and grew from a feral feline into a sweet and loving companion to Maya and her sassy cat brother, Colonel.

After saving up for more than a year, Maya left her home in Albuquerque, New Mexico to finish her bachelor’s degree at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts in August, 2021. As a full time student with a dramatically reduced income, Maya cannot afford these unexpected expenses.

Once given a final diagnosis, Carolina will undoubtedly need major surgery or even continual cancer treatments. Your gift will help this family get back on their feet financially during this heartbreaking time, and provide lifesaving care to a young cat who has a lot of life left to live, and a lot of joy left to give.
