One Final Call for Assistance
From Anne Donchos, Steven Jacobs, Jessica Brentnall, Joseph Zada, and Our Families
We want to begin by thanking everyone who has contributed to this effort so far—your kindness and generosity have already made a significant difference in the lives of those affected by the recent earthquake in Vanuatu. As we move into the new year and towards the close of this fundraiser, we’re making one final call for assistance to help us reach our $10,000 goal.
On Tuesday, 17 December, the capital of Vanuatu was struck by a massive earthquake, causing devastating destruction. Entire villages were destroyed, lives were lost, and critical infrastructure severely damaged. Many communities are still struggling to access basic necessities such as food, clean water, and shelter.
As three Australian families deeply connected to Vanuatu—through either living there (Anne & Steven) or travelling there for over 15 years (Joseph & Jessica)—we remain heartbroken by the ongoing suffering. This disaster has compounded the immense challenges Vanuatu was already facing, including two destructive cyclones, the impacts of Covid-19, and the bankruptcy of its national airline.
Why Your Support Is Still Urgently Needed
So far, we have raised over half of our $10,000 goal, thanks to the incredible generosity of donors. These funds will be used to provide:
Essential Food Supplies: Ensuring families have meals.
Clean Drinking Water: Addressing shortages and preventing the spread of waterborne diseases.
Basic Necessities: Items such as clothing, hygiene kits, and temporary shelter.
Your contributions will make a direct and tangible impact on the lives of those most affected by this disaster.
Together, We Can Make a Difference
Even weeks after the earthquake, the need for support remains urgent. This is your chance to stand with the people of Vanuatu as they continue to rebuild and recover. No donation is too small—every contribution helps provide hope and relief to families still facing incredible challenges.
We deeply appreciate and acknowledge the financial pressures many families feel at this time of year, and we are profoundly grateful for any support you can give. Your generosity is bringing much-needed relief to communities still in crisis.
Thank you for standing with us and for showing solidarity with the people of Vanuatu.
Below are some images sent to us that show both the devastation caused by the earthquake and the ongoing efforts of aid workers on the ground.
