With this appeal, I would like to introduce you to the Whispers of Love Foundation , an NGO in Uganda founded by the twin sisters Janet and Esther. This summer, I had the privilege of spending five weeks volunteering at their Library School in Nganjo, a small village near Kampala, and I was deeply touched by the incredible work they are doing.

Janet and Esther opened their home to children who had no opportunity to attend school. What started with three children has now grown to around 35 children, who receive a safe space, meals, and care from Monday to Thursday. During the week, a grandmother from the village, 'Mama Maria', and 'Mama Agi' provide additional support. On Saturdays, children from the wider community are invited for breakfast and educational activities, organized by volunteer teacher Stella.

The Library School is so much more than a place to eat or learn—it is a sanctuary where children feel safe, cared for, and encouraged to dream. Esther and Janet provide not only meals but also perspective, affection, and love, creating an environment where children can grow and thrive.

Education Makes All the Difference

During my time at the library, I witnessed firsthand how powerful education can be. One moment that particularly struck me was with a little boy named Chocolate, who had just started attending the Library School a few days before my arrival. He was only two years old and still learning to express himself in his mother tongue. Within five weeks, by interacting with other children who already spoke English and talking with volunteers, Chocolate learned around 20 English words—enough to express his needs. It was astonishing to see how much potential these children have when given even the smallest opportunity to learn.

Currently, the children are only taught when volunteers from the Global North come to Uganda. While these volunteers are often kind-hearted, they are rarely trained in education or child development, and their presence is irregular. As a result, the children’s access to consistent, quality education is limited.

Education is a fundamental human right, recognized internationally. It is essential for the full development of the human personality, for poverty reduction, for gender equality, and for the overall well-being of communities. Yet, for many children in Nganjo, access to education remains a privilege, not a right.

How You Can Make a Difference

This is why I am raising funds to help the twins hire a qualified Ugandan teacher to teach Maths and English. Volunteers from abroad can continue to participate, but a teacher will ensure structured, continuous education, preparing the children for state-recognized primary school examinations. A reasonable teacher’s salary is around €4,000 per year.

All funds raised will go directly to hiring the teacher and supporting the children’s education at Whispers of Love Foundation.

It is time to remember those who are not always considered in our everyday lives—children who are full of potential but lack access to the most basic educational opportunities.

The goal is to hire a teacher for as long as possible, ensuring that more children have the chance to learn and grow.

During my weeks at the Library School, I witnessed the impact of love, care, and opportunity on every child. Each child has their own character—they are kind, funny, intelligent, and full of potential. With your support, we can give them the chance they deserve for a better future.
