Protect children & pregnant women at risk of COVID

People with weakened body defenses are at higher risk of contracting Covid-19 and suffer deadly complications from the infection.  Among those vulnerable patients are pregnant women and children with sickle cell disease who need essential medicines such as antibiotics every day to help prevent infections.  In a country like Cameroon, with no public health coverage, pregnant women and parents of sickle cell children were already reaching out to us (NaYa) to help them afford life-saving medicines before Covid-19. Today, with the Covid-19 threat and loss of revenue, vulnerable patients are struggling more than ever to maintain access to their current medicines so that they can stay healthy and stay away from hospitals. 

To help vulnerable patients reduce their risk of exposure to hospitals and catching COVID-19, we at NaYa are donating 200 boxes of essential medicines to sickle cell disease patients and pregnant women. Although this is a good start, we want to reach more vulnerable pregnant women and children, and that’s where YOU come in.

Your contribution will go directly towards purchasing essential medicines: prenatal vitamins and antibiotics. NaYa has partnered with local companies to cover costs associated with sourcing and distribution of medicines from the pharmacies.

Medicine donations can help vulnerable patients stay away from hospitals now and be Covid-free. We anticipate filling medication gaps over the next 6months until broader national patient support programs are rolled out in Cameroon. We thank you in advance for your support as this will keep people with underlying conditions and greatly at risk, from suffering great loss.

Every dollar, euro, FCFA counts. We are grateful for any amount you give. Here is a breakdown of the costs of various medication plans:

 $5 - 1month* supply of folic acid for 1 pregnant woman
$15 - 3-month supply of prenatal vitamins for 1 pregnant woman
$30 - 3-month supply of antibiotics for 1 child with sickle cell disease (chronic inherited anemia)
$15 - One child essential medicines kit (estimated basic prophylaxis medication needed for one young child with sickle cell disease each month)

*1box corresponds to one-month supply of medication. Currency is the USD.

Please note that a transaction fee (2.9%+$0.30) is deducted from each donation by the fundraising platform. As an example, a $31.30 donation would correspond to $30 worth of 6-month supply of antibiotics for prenatal vitamins for a pregnant woman, or 3-month supply of antibiotics for a child with sickle cell disease.

As a mother and someone who has routine difficult conversations on care access for vulnerable patients, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support. As many of you, this situation with COVID-19 has left me more vulnerable than ever. In a way caring for the most vulnerable among us is also caring about ourselves and help us all stay safe. We will keep you posted on the number of boxes purchased and distributed.

Who are we?

More than a health financial assistance service, NaYa is a social enterprise registered in Cameroon which helps under-served patients access their medicines. NaYa was founded by a Cameroonian Canadian Marthe-Sandrine and her little brother Yannick. We work with pharmacies and hospitals to allow them to accept post-paid payments for medical care from low-income patients. Through our free health clinics days and financial assistance service we served 200+ vulnerable patients.

Delivering medications

How do you make sure your donations get to patients?

We have created a public Google form to share non- personal information from beneficiaries and amount spent to purchase donated medicines. The form can be accessed by anyone just by submitting a valid email. We look forward to your visit.

How will the medicines be delivered to patients?

We have created a secure form  to receive requests for medication donation from patients with pre-existing conditions who need them in Cameroon. The link to the google form will also sent via SMS to all patients texting the word ‘’Covid’’ to our customer number +237 6 70 62 04 80. Please feel to share the link with eligible patients in need.
