Help protect Ione!

Tax deductible
The Central Sierra foothill town of Ione is surrounded by working farms and ranches, beautiful open spaces, rolling oak woodlands, and rare plants found nowhere else on Earth.  It's home to families who enjoy its small-town quality of life, a historic downtown, and the landmark Preston Castle.  But a recent decision by the Amador County Board of Supervisors threatens the area's future.

On December 15, 2020, the supervisors decided to disregard the Amador County Planning Commission's recommendation to deny a developer's proposal to  the rezone of 1.8 square miles of land outside of Ione for manufacturing uses.  In rezoning the "Edwin Lands," the county opened the door for uses that are incompatible with Ione's residential neighborhoods and the Ione Valley's working farms and ranches, rare plants, and oak woodlands.  The county could approve new manufacturing facilities, including such noxious activities as slaughter houses, rendering plants,  waste incinerators, and large hog farms in the future under the new zoning, if it's allowed to stand.

The Friends of Greater Ione (Friends) has been formed to fight this rezone and protect what we all love about Ione and our small-town way of life.  In collaboration with the Jackson-based nonprofit, Foothill Conservancy, the Friends have filed a lawsuit against the County of Amador in response to the Board of Supervisors' decision.  But the Friends need your help!  Please consider making a tax deductible donation to the Foothill Conservancy today to help offset the costs of litigation.  We've already raised $7,500, but we will likely need at least twice that amount to cover expenses for legal work, filing fees, etc.

Every little bit helps.  Please donate today!
