Help Protect Endangered Sea Turtles in Costa Rica

LAST’s (Latin American Sea Turtles) project in Pacuaré, Costa Rica needs your help — it is of the world’s most critical nesting sites for Leatherback, Hawksbill, and Green sea turtles.

These gentle giants are critically endangered, facing daily threats from:

• Illegal egg poaching

• Pollution

• Beach erosion

• Loss of protected habitat

In fact, the 7.1 km of beach where this project operates has no legal protection at all. Without volunteers, this stretch of coastline would be left defenseless, accelerating the decline of these ancient creatures.

Why This Matters

The area is not only unique in every way, but is a globally significant nesting site. Over recent years, there has been an alarming drop in the number of turtles being born here. Volunteers like Sasha play a vital role — patrolling beaches at night, protecting nests, rescuing hatchlings, and educating the community.

But the project is 100% dependent on donations and volunteer participation to continue this life-saving work.
